Sankofa - Welcome to the Uncommon Roots Blog

Welcome to the Uncommon Roots blog! This blog will focus on African-American genealogy resources and research techniques to help tackle the unique obstacles that researchers face when looking for ancestors of African descent.

I'm your guide, Isos, and I'll be sharing and guiding you through the process of discovering your Uncommon Roots. I have over a decade of experience in genealogical research and I want to help others in their search.

Our theme in this blog is Sankofa: you cannot know who you are until you know from whence you came.

I hope I'm able to help you learn who you are!

I am looking for Slave information concerning the Fullilove family who were Slaveholders. The Fulliloves, James Greer, aka JG and some of his brothers moved to MS. from GA. During the mid 1800. They stayed must have moved to Louisiana about 1850, because that is when I locate census and Slave schedules for them in that state. I have been trying to locate information on a Slave named Ardwell. During the 1850's she was with Elizabeth J. Samford-Fullilove, the daughter of James G. Fullilove. Although it is a fact that she was with Elizabeth while her husband Tom was in the civil war, I am unable locate any records of sale or anything else pertaining to her except a marriage license and the census. I have been searching since the late 1990's. Do you have any suggestions of documents that I may be able to research to locate more information?
